We’re Hiring: Sales and Events Coordinator

Overview:

Black Lawrence Press is seeking a new Sales and Events Coordinator. This role is perfect for someone enthusiastic about bringing our indie titles to bookstore’s shelves, as well as supporting authors as they navigate their book releases. In addition to communicating with bookstores and libraries to assist with wholesale purchases, the S&E Coordinator will work with authors to arrange launch events and promotional opportunities for their work.

The ideal candidate is comfortable with cold calling and emailing, as well as being able to provide clear communication with authors. There are multiple opportunities to attend events and literary conferences throughout the year, so anyone applying for the job should be eager to engage with readers and wholesale customers in person. Furthermore, it is important that a candidate possess a capacity for organization, as much of the work involves keeping track of relationships with various institutions in regards to their purchasing and event history.

In short, this is the ideal job for someone who considers themselves to be personable, organized, and passionate about independent publishing.

 

Responsibilities:

-Outreach to bookstores, campus-wide reading programs, educators.

-Develop relationships with the above.

-Maintain database of contacts with notes on:

  • contact history
  • specific interests
  • past purchases

-Work with individual authors to target stores that might be receptive to their books.

-Outreach to professors who might be interested in adopting our titles for upcoming syllabi.

-Work with authors to set up at least 3 events for their titles. These can be IRL/virtual/promotional (I.E. podcast appearances).

-When possible, attend networking opportunities and conferences to promote relationships and increase BLP visibility. (I.E. AWP, Library Conferences, University of South Carolina’s Annual Conference on the First Year Experience).

 

Compensation:

-$25/hour, 15-20 hours per week

-10% commission on net sales from:

  • wholesale orders* placed through BLP when a customer uses rep’s coupon code
  • purchases from campus-wide reading programs that are the result of rep’s outreach
  • IPG sales report confirmed sales

*wholesale pricing will be made available to campus-wide reading programs and professors placing course adoption orders as well as bookstores placing orders.
