Description

In June of 2023, Black Lawrence Press welcomed numerous existing and forthcoming Nomadic Press titles to our catalogue. Apricity was originally published by Nomadic.

Apricity follows the journey of a teenage transracial adoptee as she navigates addressing years of sexual abuse from her adoptive father, her family’s recovery, and falling in love for the first time.

Praise

Whew. Where do I begin? I cried. I cried as I watched the innocence of childhood being not lost but stolen.

The writings are poignant and dripping with raw emotion that captivates you from the very first sentence. The words pounce off the pages and become illustrations that dance across the imagery senses.

It’s a beautiful train wreck, if there was ever such a thing. You want to look away but are afraid to miss anything.

Looking from the outside in, a concrete jungle, from which complicated and beautiful love comes forth.

The Tahtahme’s of the world who have yet to find their voice in the loudness of this earth need this story. If for no other reason than to know they are not alone.

I am she, she is me.

-Tamera Currington

Apricity is a beautiful collection of troublesome growth. At first we encounter a young scared girl and through it we experience the rise of an enchanting soulful woman. Tahtahme can only expand on the greatness that she has brought into this world. Her legacy is her healing through this work.

-Chanise Jannee

Who I am is a woman who understands Tahtahme’s need to share her story. Through acknowledging her pain and sexual abuse, her shame, guilt and uncertainties, she has given young women permission to do the same.

-Tresa Simmons

This work is deep. I felt the highs and lows as I went through the work. I can only imagine the number of of people who have experienced abuse but I know this work will help them relate and work through their feelings.
-A. Vaughn
