You’ve done the work. Meaning, you’ve written the book and are ready to share it with the world. Now what?
During this six-week program Diane Goettel, Executive Editor of Black Lawrence Press, will demystify the complex publishing process. “Crafting Your Submission Plan” is ideal for writers who have a complete or nearly-complete manuscript and who are planning to begin the submission process in the near future. It will also be useful for authors who have been submitting work without luck. This workshop is open to writers working in all genres and will cover topics such as:
- Defining your manuscript through comps and metadata.
- Developing an elevator pitch.
- Preparing your manuscript for submission.
- Choosing the right path for your book and identifying potential publishers.
- Drafting and polishing cover letters.
- How to handle and learn from rejection.
Diane Goettel is the Executive Editor of Black Lawrence Press and has been working in publishing for over two decades. She reviews over 2,000 submissions per year and has overseen the publication of more than 300 titles. She is the founding editor of Sapling, a weekly newsletter dedicated to authors who are actively publishing and trying to get published by literary journals, small presses, and independent publishers. Diane frequently serves as a guest lecturer for MFA programs and writing institutions. She lives in Mount Vernon, New York with her family.
