Here at Black Lawrence Press we are celebrating National Poetry Month with a poem a day, featuring a total of 30 authors from our list. Today’s featured poet is Jenny Drai, author of the forthcoming chapbook The New Sorrow is Less Than the Old Sorrow.
from THE NEW SORROW IS LESS THAN THE OLD SORROW
many, many times I answer to the succinct question how often have you?
the rational subjectively. of all lungs that inhale antecedent. a number of
options loiter on counters. sweet, time-bruised plums. not decisions but
placeholders. if enough, is not enough, written-out fog, carefully plucked.
yes. plucked fog. I dare you. throw water against your heart as if that
dragnet of emotions were a cliff. then master it.
Jenny Drai has lived all over the place and worked every odd job imaginable. She has poetry recently appearing in or forthcoming from American Letters and Commentary, Handsome, Denver Quarterly, New American Writing, Omniverse, and The Volta. A chapbook, :Body Wolf:, is now available from Horse Less Press. In addition, her novel, Fear of Endings, was recently named a finalist in the Subito Press Prose Prize. She currently lives in Vancouver, Washington, where she is at work on revising a second novel.
