Adrian van Young: On the Horror Movie Franchise

Adrian van Young, whose short story collection The Man Who Noticed Everything is forthcoming, has a glorious essay in this month’s Believer (the Film Issue) in which he reexamines horror-movie sequels: “Each of these horror franchises can and should be distinguished from horror series to the extent that they portray not a succession or continuum of horrors but a narrative cosmos that swarms and crawls with them—not to mention one that proves fascinating on the level of narrative itself, the relational dynamics of spectator and object, aesthetics, gender, politics.” You can see why we’re excited to be publishing his stuff! Enjoy.
