Sidney M. Cass

Sidney M. Cass is a trans fiction writer, teacher, and sewist who lives in St. Louis, MO. Their collection Griefover: Stories and Invitations is forthcoming from Black Lawrence Press (January 2028). Recent stories have appeared in Smoke and Mold, Ecotone, ANMLY, Foglifter, Black Warrior Review, Honey Literary, manywor(l)ds, Mississippi Review, and Passages North. Their first book, ActivAmerica (2017) was chosen by Claire Vaye Watkins for the Katherine Anne Porter Prize. Their flash fiction has been anthologized in the Best of the Net (2025), Wigleaf Top 50 (2024, 2012), The Best Small Fictions Anthology (2024), and the SmokeLong Quarterly Best of the First 10 Years Anthology. Their writing has received support from the Jentel Artist Residency, the Ragdale residency program, and Dairy Hollow. They co-founded and co-host Changeling Queer Reading Series and teach creative writing, queer theory, and publishing, among other things, at the University of Illinois Springfield.
